The Pick Up: The Biggest Air Ever Done?

An eventful week on the North Shore, lets dig in.

Here it is, your weekly fix of surf content from the North Shore. A Stab x Vans’ weekly variety show airing every Wednesday, shot on location on the North Shore of Oahu for the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.

Watch Episode 1 here.

Watch Episode 2 here.

This week’s happenings:

John John Plays Tic Tac Toe at Haleiwa.

If you’re entering the digital Vans Triple Crown, don’t expect to grab the win at Haleiwa. John John took an intimidating wave and tore it to absolute shreds. Once again, establishing pure dominance on the North Shore.

Nathan Fletcher puts on an air clinic at Pipe.

Papa can punt, and it’s not just for show. He has every intention of landing this unreasonably high straight air. The only problem was 3 sets had passed by the time he came back to earth. If you consider yourself “the best air guy” in the world and you don’t look like this:

Congratulations, you’re an idiot.

Mikey Wright 69 should be in the next Avengers film.

Mikey Wright saved a lady from drowning in heavy shore break, and the video went viral. Quite neat to see Mikey’s Instagram handle mikeywright69 scattered across the globe’s biggest news stations. Guess I’ll find a new WSL anti-hero, though. Moana Jones maybe?

Hot Gossip

The real 7th-grade lunch table stuff right here. The principal is calling mum as we speak, attempting to sort out the drama. Tati West full-on scorched Moana Jones at Pipe, causing her to hit the reef. Moana wasn’t thrilled about the incident and had some not so nice words to share with Tati on the beach. You can read for yourself here.

Did Koa Rothman give Tati a hall pass? We know Koa gets priority on all waves of his choosing. No questions there, but does he get a plus one? It seems to be the only reasonable explanation for the blatant burn. That or Ross Williams missed the block. We’ll let yall figure it out in the comments.

Have a drink, relax, and come kick it with Owl Chapman on this week’s episode of The Pick-Up.
