The Newest Snaketales Recruit Snagged A Career Sunset Pit
Plus a Haleiwa recap via Jake “The Snake” himself.
Hiroto Ohara is impossible not to love.
The pickle-sized Japanese surfer is akin to a remote-control toy, with his always flawless technique and hilarious one-liners (“Gonna buy some cars!”). Hiroto recently joined the Snaketales coaching team, which we can assume is in an effort to break through the QS’s near-bulletproof ceiling and qualify.
Near-bulletproof for most, that is.
Let’s just say if a QS ranking was directly transferrable from one surfer to another, Kanoa Igarashi could make a fortune selling CT-qualifying spots to wealthy QS stragglers.
Between 2015 and 2017, Kanoa placed seventh, fifth, and third respectively on the qualifying tour. This year he’s one event away from completing this odd-numbered pattern, as he sits atop the entire QS field heading into Sunset.
Oh, and he’s also number eight on the Championship Tour.
Meanwhile Griffin Colapinto struggles with a lower-limb injury and Ramzi Boukhiam is still slightly crazy. Check out Snaketales Haleiwa (above) for everything else.
