The Jaws bowl won’t get you an XXL Awards nomination

Second only to Shane Dorian, Albee Layer has been the best surfer at Jaws over the past 12 months. He certainly owns the inside bowl that few others want a piece of. Swell hits it from a different angle and jacks into a smaller, but way hollower and just as tough shape. Which Albee is more than happy to take on and knife, barrel after barrel. But the Billabong XXL Awards is all about size, and even though this is a big wave, with a lot of water in it, and amazingly well ridden, it isn’t enough to warrant a nomination for any awards. Feels? And from the man who also brought you this, no less.
