The Freakish Talent Of Luke Swanson
A Hawaiian teenager with a cultivated bag of tricks.
Luke Swanson is not a well-rounded surfer. Like a flea market throwing star, he’s sharp on all sides. The 17-year-old spent this winter dialing in his mechanics with Ross Williams, whose mentorship almost guarantees success. I’m not entirely sure what diet Ross Williams puts his students on (Do they actually eat spam?), but it works.
Lets break down Luke’s edit from this past winter, one blade at a time:
Airs: 1:23 – 1:38
Luke’s air game is tuned to perfection. His air reverses come with an inverted flare, and his alley-oops are downright filthy. The kid could lock down a sponsorship deal with Clorox after the squeaky-clean landing at 2:53.
Turns: 1:51, 2:19
Brute force, especially on his backhand. Luke Swanson isn’t afraid to take a swing at the scary sections, which is convenient because the North Shore has plenty.
Barrels: Yes
Sorry, no time codes for this one, there’s too many.
