Watch: The Backdoor Wipeout That Sent Dusty Payne To The Hospital This Morning
A jaw to the reef.
Earlier today, Dusty Payne took a terrible spill at Backdoor. He was rescued from the water and revived on the sand. The scene was bloody. And, as can be seen above, he went down in cartwheeling fashion. He hit the reef. At the time, it’s believed he may have broken his jaw.
From what we’ve been told, he should make a full recovery.
Different reports have been coming out. Some say he was held down for three waves, one report claims he was under for five. Regardless of how long the hold down actually was, it was enough to knock him unconscious. When he came to, “He was screaming,” photographer Tom Carey told Stab earlier today. “Which was a good sign, because that meant he was breathing. I’m just glad he’s alive.”
A nod to everyone who participated in the relief efforts. We’re wishing Dusty a quick turnaround.
