Welcome to Episode 5 of the Surf100 Challenge Series Presented by Pacifico, the fifth of eight battles in our $100,000 civil war.
Last week, we lost our fourth surfer — Cam Richards — to Surf100’s most dreaded challenge: “The Zero Sum Game”. Final stats: 2.5 hours surfed, 177 waves caught, multiple civilian burns, and innumerable expletives.
With Mateus Herdy, Noah Beschen, Ian Crane, and Cam Richards gone, only four surfers remain in contention: Jacob Willcox, Rasta Robb, Eithan Osborne, and Sebastian Williams.

Of these four, only two surfers will survive into our classic Surf100 finale*, where they’ll face off against two mystery invitees for a chance at $100,000.
Now, let’s reveal the fourth challenge: A game of SURF (like SKATE) at Waco Surf.
*Join us for a live screening of the Surf100 finale — Sept 17th at JS Garage in Oceanside, CA. The Pacificos are on us.

Episode Five: SURF
- Similar to SKATE, played 1v1
- Rock-Paper-Scissors decides who starts on Offense.
- Offense calls out their trick. If they land it, defense gets one shot to land it too. If they don’t, they get an “S”, then a “U”, and so on…
- The roles then switch and the other surfer calls their trick — repeating the process.
- This continues until the final letter, “F”, where the defensive surfer gets two shots to match the trick. If they don’t, they’re OUT
- 2 winners from the First Round are safe and onto the next episode
- 2 losers from the First Round go to the Losers Round
- Whoever then loses in the Losers Round, goes home.
A few behind-the-scenes datum on this episode:
– We were in Texas for less than 48 hours. It was a last-minute decision to head here after looking at some disappointing swell charts.
– This was Jacob’s first time to Middle America. We took him straight to Buc-ees and then feasted on pounds of delicious BBQ at Terry Black’s. The boys were riding heavy for the 5 AM wake-up call the next morning.
– We only had four hours in the pool: 7 AM – 9 AM and then 12 PM – 2 PM. After a bonus session for the crew in the afternoon, we headed to dinner, then karaoke, then a billiards hall.
– We drove to Dallas at 6 AM the next morning, landed in Orange County, then booked it up the coast for the next challenge.
