Strange Rumblings in Shangri La
In the age of the web clip and our disposable minds, surf movies are dead. Almost. There are two releases worth seeing this year: Kai Neville’s old school section-based thriller, Cluster, and Strange Rumblings, the latest from director Joe G and Globe. It features the entire team, but the new faces Noa Deane, Brendon Gibbens and Creed McTaggart should lift this film’s levels of performance. Back in the old days (The Secret Machine), Globe used to struggle to align their high production vales and swells. They’d book a window and set up and deal with whatever baby jesus threw at them, in terms of waves. And, it wasn’t always pretty. Now, they’re a little more strategic. You won’t believe the right they scored in Mozambique, you’ve seen the fun(isn) waves they got in Iceland and the quieter parts of Brazil offset a road less travelled. We got some Indo tossed in along with their regular roster: Dion Agius, Nate Tyler, TB, Yadin, Dame and CJ Hobgood. The film drops in August. Woo! Nate Tyler, stylishly slouched in Indo.
