Any diligent reader of Stab knows how much we appreciate high-quality, long-form surf films.

With surfers being pushed toward more and more toward vlog-style content, Mauro Diaz’s latest film Aqui kicks the status quo square in the nuts. Linking up with Metal Neck’s Matt Tromberg, the pair spent two years wave-chasing for the film, which features fellow Volcom teammates Balaram Stack and Carlos Goncalves.

Mauro not only has the whole package (tubes/turns/airs), but he executes them all with a style that is incredibly similar to another adore Volcom surfer, Mr. Yago Dora. Watch between 5:47 and 6:00 and tell me that doesn’t look like a regular-footed Yago. Hell, if Mauro grew a mustache I’d have a hard time telling them apart.

Filmed across Indo, Hawaii, Mexico and Mauro’s home island of Puerto Rico, it’s clear that he’s the next great export from la Isla de Encanta.

Come for the tubes, stay for the obligatory tweaked out Balaram airs. Hit play already!
