Watch: Oliver Kurtz’s Triple OBX Tunnel This Morning
“It was 5 degrees [Fahrenheit] out!” (Read: -15 C!)
From Summer ‘till now, the East Coast wins the shiny trophy for best surf in the US. We’re going to momentarily exclude Hawaii from this, which, Hawaii is probably fine with. Maybe even flattered.
Over here in the devil-bashing City of Angels, home to Southern California’s most consistently terrible surf, we’ve become jealous of what the right side of the country has had on offer.
In August, when steep souths and Hurricane swells trickle into Southern California, it was flat; the East Coast fired.
Then September came around, still nothing. October had a dash of surf, and due to this increase in swell, the lineups became, well, interesting—something to smile or fight over, depending on an individual’s general surfing demeanor.
Before and after the New Year, save the Central/Northern Coast of California (where it has been offshore and very fun), we’ve suffered from a lackluster winter. At least, nothing similar to this running OBX barrel surfed by Oliver Kurtz this morning.
Oliver sure seems to find his way to waves of desire (even if the water and weather are quite cold), which, makes us jealous.
Surfers surfing good waves always make us jealous.
