Mick Fanning, Mason Ho, Steph Gilmore, And Ian Crane Indulge In Slim Thick Chlorine Wedges
Also, is MF on a not-so-secret mission to sus his competition’s tech?
Whether by slow-mo, soundtrack, the best 480p my airplane wifi could muster, or the fact that North Shore was filmed at this pool, this edit felt nostalgic.
Which is odd, considering we are watching modern surfing, on very modern boards, on artificial waves created from computers and manipulated air at a 21-acre facility in inland Palm Springs, California.
But, if you’ll stretch your hippocampus back to 80s films like Endless Summer II or Wave Warriors, this type of DIY, slow-motion indulgence had a pleasurable, hypnotic effect that is felt here.
And, since Mason Ho is a giant Wave Warriors fan and the iMovie editor of all of these edits, it can safely be assumed he’s drawing inspiration from his cinematic heroes.
As this article’s title reads, in this clip you’ll see Steph Gilmore, Mick Fanning, Ian Crane, Mason Ho, Blair Conklin, and friends trade off condensed tubes at the Palm Springs Surf Club.
After years of trial and error, PSSC is now running quirks-free, serving paying surfers daily.
One interesting thing to note is Mick Fanning’s recent announcement that he’ll be teaming up with investors to open an Endless Surf Tech wave pool on the Gold Coast. Aside from testing this PSSC pool, he was in Munich, Germany last week testing the pool there as well. Looks like our Electric Acid and 2x Stab In The Dark tester is doing his characteristic due diligence.
Not much left to say, just click play and take a 10-minute jaunt in electric blue xanadu.
P.S. According to friends of Stab who’ve surfed the pool recently, they recommend a 4/3 and booties for winter temps right now, a board with slightly more volume to pump past the roll-in, and going on the second or third wave.
Thank us later.
