Matt Meola Nails A Helicopter Over Clay Marzo’s Noggin
Immense trust required.
Do you have faith in your friends’ surfing abilities? For instance, when they’re stroking into a quickly lurching lump, do you forecast tubular agility, or do you cringe at their inevitable doom? And when they’re running down the line at full-clip, heading toward a steep but non-lethal section, do you expect their board to fly toward the heavens or remain firmly planted to their feet?
After nailing a host of flips and spins near his home in Ho’okipa, Matt Meola headed to Clay Marzo’s ‘hood to show his friend what he’d learned over the recent months. When an ideal section presented itself, and with Clay in an optimal viewing position, Matt threw a controlled-but-radical 360 right at his friend’s head. Clay, having formed a favorable opinion of Matt’s abilities through hundreds of shared sessions, watched Matt soar overhead without as much as flinching. If that’s not a good mate, I don’t know what is.
