“Lowering The Bar” With Dane Reynolds And Co.
In hopes of re-invigorating your small wave froth.
Small waves, we all surf them.
Recently I’ve been hitting snooze more often than not when the waves look underwhelming. Maybe it’s my privilege speaking, but small, crowded waves coupled with California’s 10-degree water temp drop in the past two weeks have made clambering out of bed more of a discomfort than a delight. Then I watched this.
In what at first glance could be mistaken as a Neck Beard II ad, Dane’s latest Ch11.tv edit is exactly what California surfing needed right now. Just because the waves are (as Dane describes) “incredibly shitty”, that’s no excuse not to surf—it just means you have to approach your session differently. You can try and thrash every wave into oblivion like Dane here, or whimsically fling tricks into the wind like Matt McCabe’s socially distanced shuv below.
Next time the waves are shit, throw this on and get out there with the gratitude that at least you’re not battling for waves against these guys. Then you’d really have a problem.
Also, here’s a relatable self-performance analysis by Dane.
