Kirra Comes To SoCal
While not nearly as perfect as the famed Australian point, this running right provided ample tube time for Kolohe Andino, Griffin Colapinto, Yadin Nicol and more.
California has been coursing with swell and there is no end in sight.
From San Fran to the Cruz, all the way through Santa Babs, LA, and the greater San Diego district, surfers have been tuning their shoulders and working off their holiday guts thanks to a relentless pulse of WNW energy.
Accompanying said swells are a unique local wind pattern, which is pushing primarily from the east and south rather than the typical north and west. These winds grant different windows of possibility up and down the coast, leading to a significant increase in tube time for the average-and-above California surfer.
During the biggest pulse of the swell, one Southern Californian point fired beyond all others. While we can’t say where this Kirra-esque point resides (and please, if you know, don’t bother writing it in the comments), we can say that Griffin Colapinto, Kolohe Andino, Yadin Nicol and more relished in its splendor.
Keep in mind that this is a raw clip rather than an over-produced highlight reel. Considering the quality of the waves and how fun it is to watch even the non-makes, we back this style and even made it through the entire 10-minute film.
In case you need another reason to click, Stab has been informed by one local that this is the best this particular wave has been in a decade. Not quite Kirra, but for California standards it’s damn good.
