The Mentawais Have Been Absolutely Firing
Very big, blue barrels with Teva Dexter.
Much of the news coming out of the southern hemi the last week has been unfortunate, with a massive swell taking numerous lives, including one Australian musician, who drowned at Uluwatu.
Meanwhile, the Mentawais have been positively firing, according to boots on the ground.
“Been pumping over the last couple days in the Mentawais,” filmer Justis St. John tells Stab. “Massive Bank Vaults. Waves breaking out in the middle of ocean that we’ve never seen before, crazy swell.”
While Justis was holed up in his editing bay, he sent over this clip of Kauai’s Teva Dexter giving Kandui a proper going over.
“I’ve done a couple trips with Teva over the years but never had the chance to shoot him till last year,” says Justis. “Incredible surfer and in the small group of people that surf Kandui left and rifles equally well. He’s a huge human, 230 plus and 6’4 and it’s so nuts to see someone surf that good, that large. He’s about underground as it gets and one of the best surfers I’ve ever shot.”
