John Florence, Mick Fanning, Craig Anderson And More In Chris Bryan’s Dream Sequence
Mesmerising @1000 frames per second.
Isn’t this pretty? It’s a melodic lullaby of brine, fibreglass and bodies in motion. Is it art? For the sake of cliches about drawn lines on aquatic canvases, we’ll call it art. But that’s what happens when you slow it down, to 1000 frames per second, and add a dreamy song to the mix. Then when you drop in the likes of–in order of appearance–Koa Rothman, Luke Davis, Craig Anderson, Albee Layer, Jeremy Flores, Cyclops (empty wave), Chris Ross, Mick Fanning, Laurie Towner, Matt Meola, Taj Burrow, John Florence, Kolohe Andino, John Florence (again!) and Dan Ryan, does it become something more?
The dawn of film turned surfing into more than just the act; it presented a platform for so-called artistry. And, in this digital age of RED cameras, Premiere and the internet, that platform’s blossomed into something beautiful. You can call it art, or just call it what you will.
