Jean Da Silva Had One Helluva Forehand Carve

We’re still a little shaken up about the consecutive-day deaths of Jean Da Silva and Oscar Moncada. When we learned about Jean, we were shocked and confused. When we learned about Oscar, it seemed genuinely unreal. How could two of surfing’s best underground barrel riders die in such close time proximity? It was a statistical anomaly that left us feeling deflated.

If there’s one thing that can make our worlds a bit brighter, it’s watching these guys do what they do best. Above is something of a JDS tribute clip, featuring Jean in Peru’s long left-handers. If nothing else, it’s a damn fine ode to his frontside carve. The guy could surf.
