Jaws Recap: “There’s No Way You Could Have Paddled That Thing”

Jaws happened. 

You saw it.

The women got flogged, the men had one of the best heats in history before the WSL called it off, then they finished in decent but ultimately underwhelming conditions the following day. 

Billy Kemper won with two incredible almost-makes. Some, including a highly vocal (until reached for further comment) Albee Layer, thought the result was poorly judged and that instead Kai Lenny should have won on account of actually completing his rides. 

The newest episode of Koa Rothman’s This Is Livin’ (above) reveals that despite making the final, both Albee and Kai neglected to attend the award ceremony. 

Another fun fact gleaned from this clip: Koa Rothman, son of the venerable Eddie Rothman who runs Da Hui (and all its subsidiaries), uses Fu Wax and not daddy’s Da Hui blend. (You can read about both of those bars in the Stab Wax Test, where they placed first and second respectively).
