The Many Faces Of Jaleesa Vincent
Luka Raubenheimer gets unusually close to one of surfing’s most singular personalities.
“Pussy Jaleesa, weird Jaleesa, musical Jaleesa, mushroom Jaleesa, wholesome Jaleesa, tough Jaleesa, sooky Jaleesa.”
These are some of the Jaleesas Jaleesa Vincent has identified in herself in Volcom’s new mini documentary, Strange But Not A Stranger. There may be others.
Over the years, we’ve watched her move from comp grom to freesurfing queen, then into accessory and surfboard entrepreneur, while pushing the envelope of what self-initiated surf films can be.
Jaleesa was part of the winning team in the inaugural Stab Highway, then added her own layer of colour to the already colourful S.U.R.F. in its second season.
Directed by her partner, Luka Raubenheimer, Strange But Not A Stranger gets as close and personal to Jaleesa’s world as possible and, still, only adds more faces to one of surfing’s most prismatic figures.
