Is Jordy Smith the CT’s Most Obvious Underdog?

A world title run is still not out of the question in 2022.

Jordy is one of those guys, like Taj, who’s always surfed like a world champion but has never been able to put everything together in one cohesive season. However, looking at the final few CT events of the year, and this edit, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him drop the clutch and click into gear.

We’re not saying we’d bet on him to win the title but….if someone gave us +10,000 odds, we might put 11 bucks on the table.

Between Punta Roca (Central American J-Bay), Jeffrey’s Bay itself, and a final showdown at Lowers — a wave that Jordy has dominated in the past — it wouldn’t be outrageous to say he’s the lowest-ranked CT surfer (currently 13th) that could still put together a heroic title run. Well, him and Jimbo Slades (15th), if everywhere is firing.

In O’Neill’s latest episode of “Silver Linings”, Jordy returns home from Portugal to catch-up with pops (who looks like a mad surfboard scientist in the very best way) and snag a few new blades for the Australian leg. After arriving in Oz, and walking in slow motion down the Bells’ stairs, Jordy engages in a full-on gladiatorial deathmatch with every section he encounters.

Serious demolition.
