Imagine Going For A Nice, Relaxing Surf At Your Local And Seeing This
Italo Ferreira is doing a different sport.
Baia Formosa was once just a sleepy fishing village on Brazil’s easternmost peninsula. Now it’s a sleepy fishing village on Brazil’s easternmost peninsula that’s home to the world’s best competitive surfer.
From what we can tell through Italo’s IG, Baia Formosa has two predominant breaks: the righthand point that doubles as a boat harbor, and the lefthand beachie that is ripe for punting. Italo, naturally, dominates both venues.
Which made us think…
Imagine if you were just a regular person from Baia Formosa, who, on a day when the fish weren’t biting, decided to take the afternoon off and surf the local pointbreak. You’ve got your board, your fins, your favorite pair of trunks, and you pull up to the beach to see…this.
The fastest and most radical surfing that exists on planet earth.
Would you be excited to share the lineup with such a supremely talented athlete, or depressed by the fact that you’re playing checkers to his blindfolded blitz chess?
What Italo does in the water is just not the same as the activity we collectively consider “surfing”. Hence why he’s the champ.
