“If You’re Gonna Be Dumb, You Better Be Tough”
Dane Reynolds + Parker Coffin saddle up in Ch11’s ‘This Is Where I Am.’
The year is 2026. Men now speak openly to other men about their feelings, their loves and their losses, their hopes and their sorrows. To prevent any confusion about their masculinity, they do it perched atop horseback.
“I just got back from filming Dane and Parker on horseback in fucking Ohio,” said Chapter 11 Filmmaker Hunter Martinez, back in October. “It was so awkward and funny, and also kind of scary. Dane’s horse would start charging me, and he was kind of freaking out, but trying to interview Parker while on the horse. It was kind of chaotic, but it was the perfect visual for the series that we’re doing. It needs to have some comedic relief from serious information and from the surfing.”

The series Hunter’s talking about is Chapter 11’s new venture, This Is Where I Am, where, instead of your usual surf edit, we get a peek behind the eyes of the person, their story, and, essentially, their place in the universe. A few months ago, we got Andrew Jacobson’s episode, where Dane Reynolds stumbled through a charmingly awkward tea party with Andrew’s parents in their family home.
“It’s something we talk about a lot — the direction of Chapter 11,” says Hunter. “Like, how are we going to grow the look of Chapter 11 and push it towards more quality than quantity? Dane and I both feel that a lot of YouTube videos, things that come out weekly, are often a little brainless. In 2026, we want to go for more quality, editorial-based storytelling. Obviously, surf edits are sick, but it’s so much fun to mic someone up.”

We can all likely rally behind the resurrection of long-form storytelling, something lost there for a while, siphoned off by the black hole in our pockets, which we’ll likely never let stray more than a few metres from our reach, for the rest of our twitchy little lives.
“You never know what’s coming,” says Parker. “You don’t know what can happen when. Your relationships and the people you’re around is what matters. For me, it’s all about doing what I love with the people that I love. If I do that, then I’ll be happy.”
Parker is generally agreed upon to be one of the nicest dudes in surfing, and this clip is a continuation of that data set. Oh, and some very good surfing happens to be present as well. Watch above.
