If You Pulled Up To A Playful Beach Break With No One Around, What Would You Ride?
Josh Kerr and Asher Pacey infiltrate our subconscious.
Imagine you pulled up to a fun-looking beach break, and there was not another soul in sight — no one to judge you, no one to impress, no hang-ups whatsoever.
What board would you ride to have the most fun?
That’s the question that Matt Parker, founder of Album Surfboards, poses in his brand’s latest edit, Art Form: A Medium of Creative Self-Expression, which should be absorbed on as large a screen format as possible.
In the 10-minute short, Matt distills his shaping philosophy and why he cares so damn much about making surfboards that don’t always match conventional wisdom, yet appeal to so many people.
“There shouldn’t be any rules with what a surfboard looks like,” Matt says.
But actions speak louder than words, and the surfing that Josh Kerr and Asher perform on their Albums would register in the 120 dB range.
If the edit’s distinct cinematic aesthetic style feels familiar, that’s likely because you’ve seen director Matt Kleiner’s other notable Album collab, SWAY, aka Kerrzy’s twin-fin extravaganza, which finished in the top-10 edits of 2021’s Stab Surfer of the Year poll.
Art Form is similar in its appearance, but it’s a deeper glimpse into Matt’s methodology and pragmatism, all wrapped up in the scintillating surfing we’ve come to expect from two-fin maestros Josh Kerr and Asher Pacey. In this edit, Josh and Asher prove again why they’re expert rule-benders, carving lines, stomping airs and threading Kirra pits, all on those signature sturdy twinnies.
