Ian Crane And The Real Ripbowls Of Orange County
Two minutes of excellence despite meteorological mediocrity.
“I know there’s a specific method to success on YouTube,” says Ian Crane. “You know, the stuff Nathan Florence and those guys do, which is sick. I feel like there’s a formula, but I don’t see myself doing that. Putting out content on a schedule, worrying about how many subscribers you have. That’s not really where my excitement is at.
“I just want to be productive, and be surfing good,” he continues. “And I hope people are psyched on it. I have a lot of passion projects and I love watching every type of surfing. For me, I like doing two type of surf films. First is content like this video. Just a normal day of surf, the viewer can get a feeling for a session and the real skill of a surfer and how a board works in everyday waves — kinda like what Mason does.
“And then second, I like making proper surf films where everything is put together in a considered way. Going on sick trips, picking good music, and editing it in an artistic way is so fun.”
As you might guess, Crane has been stockpiling high-quality footage for a future film.
In the meantime, you can watch him dismantle a few stretched out Orange County rip-bowls above.
“This swell was just after EAST Fest,” says Ian. “It was the end of that hurricane swell that hit SoCal, and I just spent the day hanging and filming.”
