How To Trade Rent For More Time In The Water
A case study with Mick Rodgers and his 1996 Ford Econoline.
Ever thought about taking residence in a box-shaped motor vehicle? Mick Rodgers did. Examining the dire appearance of his finances, he took action and wiped the rental expense right out of his life. While many have flirted with the idea of van living, little commit – and that’s what makes Mr Rogers story interesting. There’s a lot more to consider than simply saving rent.
“As long as I can get in the water I’m happy,” says Mick. “I don’t need the other things, I don’t need the big house, I don’t need material goods. If I can surf, and be in the water, I’m a happy camper.”
Mick teamed up with film maker, Soren Heil and The Critical Slide Society to reveal his personal experience of van life on the west coast, the challenges he faced and the extra time he’s now allocated to surfing (likely doubling as his shower alternative).
