How One Stab Employee Missed Out On Beachbreak Perfection With Dane Reynolds

I hate this video… 

Why? A few reasons. Andrew Schoener texted me an empty wave clip at 1:18pm before this session went down. “Dude it’s kinda firing,” he wrote. 

Being a new dad I replied: “Im stuck at home… is it actually that good?” Desperately seeking validation that I wasn’t really missing much. Andrew, unburdened by empathy, replied back: “It looks so dreamy.”  

Four hours go by and I hear nothing. That can only mean one thing: the surf is in fact firing. 

Shit. And I’m cleaning diapers… no pun intended. As I look out my window to trees blowing from the east before sunset, I receive another text at 5:05pm. I debate whether to open it or not, already knowing my fate. 

No words, just a clip from the session. This is not good.

An incredibly positioned water shot of Dane driving through a pristine right-hander at a wave that hasn’t been good in years. 

“Dude wtf,” I reply. “I’m gonna jump off a cliff.” 

Chest to head high barrels, 15 minutes from your house, with just your friends out? Don’t get me wrong I love being a dad, but that’s enough to consider being an absentee father.

You’d think Andrew stopped there, but no. At 9:02 pm I received another text. For the love of God, a Vimeo link? This dude made a four minute edit from the session, even adding music before I had the chance to eat dinner and put my kid down to bed… I’m still trying to figure out what I did to hurt him. 

Five months have gone by since this day and I almost forgot all about it. Until Chapter11 decided to drop the latest ‘Daily Exports’ so that I could relive the pain one last time. Don’t get me wrong, I’m really really really stoked that Eithan, Matt, Dane, and Jake had such a fun session… I hope you enjoy this clip more than I did.
