“Holy Shit Who Is This Guy?”
Our writer’s actual response to watching Noah Hill’s ‘Casual Threat’.
The filmer and editor of the above short film, Quinn Graham, summarized our thoughts on Noah Hill’s ‘Casual Threat’ most succinctly.
“Fuck.”
That was Quinn’s vocal reaction to the final turn of the edit, but the phrase will likely echo in your head throughout. “Casual Threat,” Noah’s best work to date, is not good. It’s great.
A surefooted and acrobatic Maui/Californian goofyfoot with a casually dangling lead arm, there’s a distinct Parker Coffin vibe here. But Hill is a jack of all trades and looks to be a master of them, too. Solid frontside and backside barrels, airs that will put some CTers to shame, f—-d up power gouges, the list goes on. If you spot a gap in his surfing, well, you’re just grasping at nonexistent straws.
In this good ol’ fashion edit, Noah romps through Portugal, Mexico, and Hawaii with a full head of steam, each section building on one another into a frothy crescendo. He digs his way out of sandpits in Mexico (but also stops a looney backside rotation at 3:49) before heading to punchy Portuguese wedges and points. Ultimately he ends up back home in Hawaii, splitting time and lips apart on Maui and Oahu with such ferocity you’d swear they’d personally slighted him.
Highlights run amok. Watch above and good luck picking your favorites.
