A Convincing Case For Less Being More

Highline’s A Place In The Sun entry is progressive, but honest.

The creation process can have many stages. Sometimes you go through the plunging lows and dizzying highs of brainstorming, only to end up right back at the simplest solution. And this was exactly how Highline came to create such a succinct boardshort for their 2017 A Place In The Sun entry. Anything that can be described as both ‘techn’ and ‘honest’ at the same time, is absolutely kosher with your pals at Stab. “The inspiration to start with was to make the best and most tech trunk we could, but it sort of became a process of elimination,” tells Highline. “We ended up eliminating those bells and whistles that it takes to make a real tech trunk. The whole process made us pose the question, ‘do we really even need that?’ Most of the time, the answer was ‘fuck no,’ so we ended up making the simplest and most honest pair of boardshorts that we could. Classic and well-fitting 18-inch, four-way stretch boardshorts in a black silhouette with a few nice trims. Less became more as we aimed to deliver a pair of boardshorts anyone could wear and of a quality that would last a good while.”
