More From A One Of A Kind Stretch Of Sand
Eight minutes of Skeleton Bay as ridden by Aritz Aranburu, Koa Smith, Brett Barley, Naxto Gonzalez, Benji Brand and more.
Someday the sands of Skeleton Bay will shift and the wave will be gone. Constant change—that’s the nature of desert dunes and hammering ocean currents. Until that day comes, which may be in two years or twenty, Namibia will be holding the best sand-bottom left in the world.
“It’s a wave that until you see it with your own eyes you can’t really imagine how good it is,” affirms Aritz Aranburu.
There’s a lot of POV footage of the place floating around the web, and a recent run of stacked swell has only added to the archive, but in Jon Aspuru’s latest video drop, “Namibia Legendary,” he offers a more pulled back vision. Revealing how absolutely locked in one has to be to beat it on down the line, Skeleton Bay is a drag strip of epic proportion. Aranburu, Natxo Gonzalez, Adrian Fernandez de Valderrama, Brett Barley, Koa Smith and Benji Brand have spent the last couple seasons getting it wired. They also know they better enjoy it now because nobody knows when that first hole in the sandbar may appear.
