“Desert Point Might Be My Favorite Wave In The World” – Mason Ho
Mason declares his love for Indo’s 400-meter reef with a backside tube-riding masterclass.
“Desert Point might be my favorite wave in the world,” said Mason Ho when we asked about his clear adoration for the 400-meter left. “I haven’t come across a right like it yet.”
From Bali, there are a few ways to get to its neighbor island, Lombok, where Desert Point resides: ferry ($), fastboat ($$), and even a flight ($$$). We asked Mase what was his preferred method of inter-island travel.
“I usually fly in light weight while super agent Pete Mathews drives over all the heavvvyyy equipment.”
Oh to be a pro!
On this particular jaunt, Mase shared an A+ Deserts day with his friend and teammate Sheldon Paishon. For 10 straight hours, the Hawaiians threaded backhand tubes in a range of body positions that would make even Vātsyāyana blush.
Perhaps the best part of the films comes around the 3:00 mark, when Mason, all wrapped up in blue, has no idea that a female paddler is directly in his line.
Rather than continue on a path to the shoulder or ditch her board out of fear, the woman paddles straight toward the impact zone and duckdives under a crackling lip with total poise and control.
“That chick was suchhh a legend in and out of the water,” Mason would later claim.
It’s certainly better than most of us would have done in the same situation.
