Craig Anderson Throws A Shyama Buttonshaw Twinnie Around Like It’s A Thruster
Watch this before you bring a twin fin into the ocean.
A friend once commented that twin fins should be ridden like thrusters and thrusters should be ridden like twin fins.
Along with Buck’s unwavering belief that three waves are all it takes to make a session, I’ve added this concept to a short list of personal rules, and have since attempted to keep it in mind every time I paddle out on either of those designs.
As someone who surfs well enough to fool themselves into thinking they’re a good surfer, but not well enough to convince bystanders of it, watching Craig Anderson ride a Shyama Buttonshaw twinnie on very inviting head-high lefts illustrates what my brain aspires to do, but my body fails to achieve.
While the struggle to find new ways to flaunt content is a thing, Shyama’s drip-fed, short, considered, yet not overproduced pieces of surf content via his YouTube channel have all the pull but none of the cringe associated with your run-of-the-mill surf vlog.
All the waves in this clip were documented and edited by Dav Fox of Motel Hell lore during a single session in 2022. The synth-pop score comes from the twiddly digits of Russel Webster. If a heart beats inside your chest, you’ve certainly tried to Shazam the track he composed with Shaun Manners, which serves as the intro to Shaun’s Cult Of Freedom part and SEOTY 2023 contender.
The clip, while not demanding too much of your time, hooks you in before ending rather abruptly, leaving you wanting more screen time and less center fin.
