Chippa Wilson Picks The Air Section We’ll Be Using For Stab High Japan Presented By Monster Energy
PerfectSwell Shizunami has 4 ramps to choose from — which one excites our 2019 champ?
Stab High Japan is exactly two weeks away. All of our invitees are nearly announced, travel plans are in motion, and Nick Marshall is about to incite a riot. Though we’ve revealed all the details behind the pool, we haven’t yet taken the time to clarify which air section our competitors will be racing towards in pursuit of glory.
A few weeks ago, we brought 2019 Stab High Champion Chippa Wilson to dip his toes in the chlorinated shallows and parse out which of the four PerfectSwell sections would be best suited to competition.
While the video doesn’t show it, it’s worth noting that Chip and Ian Crane tested the section that has the ramp super early on the wave — also known as the ‘Wedge Pop’, which Evan G did his biggest punts in the original video. They both agreed that despite the potential for remarkable height, it was tricky to consistently time up and might make the event hard to watch, with people constantly missing the section. The one they chose has the best of both worlds — long runway, easy to hit, with plenty of pop.
PerfectSwell Shinzunami refer to this setting as the “High Ball” air section, which you can watch past Stab High winner Chippa Wilson explore above.
