Celebrate Harry Bryant’s Weird And Wonderful Soft Board Approach
Slide flaccid through the tube, the face or maybe, the air!
Finless spins and coffin rides, we’ve seen it all before – it’s soft board marketing 101. Apart from the odd Jamie O clip however, seeing softies in decent waves is a rarity.
You really get a good idea of their limitations, as well as their advantages. Control on rail is limited, arcs are wider, response is minimal, but damn the things hold speed and hangtime given the appropriate opportunity.
The clip you’re watching above, spliced together by the folks at SurfStitch, puts Harry Bryant and a Catch Surf quiver through its paces in a range of conditions. Everything from shorebreak junk, to punchy air winds and running cylinders. They wanted to preach the soft-top religion and in the process pose an interesting internal dilemma for those sitting on the fence – why swap back to glass when you can pull out a performance-orientated foamie and slide full speed through a tube or into a dangerous kicker?
We’re not sure if it’s all Haz B, but by gosh it looks like an enjoyable time and we’ll continue dabbling in the foam scene whether it be atop a seven foot finless, a performance quad or anything in between.
If you’re keen to attempt foam popped lofts and finless skimming like the likes of Hazza, then skip on over here to incorporate a couple of foam blades into your usually fibreglassed quiver.
