Can You Judge A Man By His Craft?

Click or Miss Vol. 11

It’s generally best not to discriminate.

People like what they like, and if we learned anything from Kelly riding a twin fin at Pipe, it’s that sometimes an ensemble change is all it takes to strike the public’s fancy.

Below we have normal boards, big boards, boogie boards, foil boards, mini-boogie boards, and whatever you call what Blair Conklin rides. The point is, the variance in craft seen in these clips is about as large as it gets, and no one seems to care. In fact, the guy on the most ‘standard’ equipment (Leo) actually has the least views, and while you may judge a foil-boarder from afar, how are you going to deny a board sport with the Ferreira seal of approval?

At the end of the day, these guys are entertainers. We know as well as anyone the benefits of capturing someone riding different boards… If variety is the spice of life then this Click or Miss is a gahd damn Carolina Reaper. Enjoy.

Leo does a lot of things right in this clip. Mostly surfing? Check. Feature from GOAT? Check. Wipeout… check? The reason I’m saying to Miss this clip is out of pure, unadulterated jealousy. Leo says, “The waves have been like 10 ft for the last three weeks. We finally get some fun waves, which is kind of what I want at this point.” I don’t know how to say it in Italian, but in America this is what we call a ‘good problem’.

Hey Leo, remember when you pretty much said the waves have been too good while wearing board-shorts in Hawaii? So-Cal got real windy early this week and Kevin Schulz, Blair Conklin, and Tyler Stanaland made the most of it, finding a semi-protected wedge off a groin. Give us Kevin Schulz on a left with some air wind and consider us sold.

Giving Italo tow-straps is like giving a Deontay Wilder a pair of Brass Knuckles—it’s just not fair. In other news, if you were on the fence about foiling, here you have our current reigning world champ beaming from ear to ear while riding one. He towed Nazare last year and now he’s foiling? Kai Lenny should watch his back…

From watching this video, you can learn bit more about Youtube’s algorithm as well as how to make your own river wave. Beefs.TV has 16% of the subscriber base as J.O.B, yet they posted a video on the same day as Jamie that has more views. Sometimes it’s quality over quantity, but one can never truly predict what will satiate Youtube’s almighty algorithms (ie. this stationary Pennsylvanian trail cam getting 12 million views).

This video is getting a ‘Miss’ for the volume of spongers-per-square-inch at the 7:30 mark. I know I said not to discriminate, but one can’t deny the organic chemical reaction one has to images on a screen. At the end of the day, Jamie doesn’t need me to tell you to watch this video, honestly you probably already have… which is why we wrote a piece about it, which you can read here.

We’ve all seen what N.Flo can do at Jaws. The wipeout at 8:16 brings to mind a clip from another one of the *week’s vlogs, where Koa Rothman cites the reason he didn’t go to Jaws with the rest of his friends was a fear of getting blindly lipped in the head while backside bottom turning. Here you can see Nate start to draw a line off the bottom, realize he’s about to get smashed, and hit the eject button (Albee’s concussion came from a similar scenario). Good on Koa for exercising restraint—unfortunately his fear came true for Nate here.

*To those who’ve made it this far, yes I actually watch all the Vlogs, no I don’t just pick the first 5 that I find. This is professionalism baby!
