Caity Simmers, Steph Gilmore, and Ian Crane Star In “Luau Punch”
The Toaster provides 8 minutes of surf cinema.
We got to spend a few quality minutes with Caity in the strange world of Adobe Premiere before she left for the upcoming CT in the land of primary colors.
Her next ‘Toasted” conquest is eight minutes of footage from her North Shore winter the O’Neill team and friends like Stephanie Gilmore and Molly Picklum. Today marks around five months after the footage was shot. We Caity asked what took so long:
Caity: I’ve been doing a lot lately—having some mental ups and downs, adjusting to different time zones, finishing school, so I haven’t gotten to edit as much as I would like. I wasn’t even planning on making a Hawaii vid until Jack Coleman sent me a few clips. I already had some handycam stuff saved.
Where’s your inspiration been coming from these days?
The inspiration comes at random. For example, the night before the finals in Portugal, I accidentally stayed up until 1am editing. When they called the comp on, I was slightly surprised.
I know you’d had the edit almost finished for a couple months—why’d you pick this week to post it?
Well the Toaster passed smog, so in honor of that. Excited to put more miles on it.
What’s it like hanging with Steph?
Steph is cool to travel with, we both have the same coach [Tom Whitaker]so we’ve spent a bunch of time together. She’s radical— plays guitar really good. And Harry [Hendo] gives me a bunch of crazy ideas, he’s an absolute homie.
What’s the future of Toasted Media looking like?
We’re just gonna keep taking stupid handycam videos and having fun.
Re-introduce yourself to Caity’s whimsical cuts in the surf lullaby above. The eight minute edit is a compilation of rail grab cuttys and Oahu shade to soothe soul.
