Best Of: The Yearly Gold Coast Tube Fest
The Snapper comp didn’t happen, but the usual staples still got their Gold Coast dosage.
As we all know, and are sick of hearing, the 2020 CT is sort of smoked. Snapper didn’t happen, Bells is canned, Margaret River waiting period is now-ish, and the rest of the tour is doubtful at best with international travel restrictions looking likely to continue for months.
Despite Snapper not happening, a number of CT ssurfers were on the Gold Coast preparing for what they thought was the opening event. Coincidentally—or what seems to happen in the lead up to every Snapper event—the year’s best cyclone swell lined up along the Goldy’s points.
You have Mick with a big ol’ knee brace packing pits. Mikey Wright recovering from his chronic back injury with a number of tubs (and a nicely recovered, yet accidental, drop in). Jack Robinson being Jack Robinson. And some fly ins like the Colapinto brothers showing why not just one, but both deserve a spot on the WCT.
There’s big straddie, the off D-Bah, and everything from heavy behind-the-rock Snapper to some head high rippable walls.
