Barrel Rolls, Spiderman Suits And A Tribute To Shawn ‘Barney’ Barron
“There’s still no one that surfs like him, I don’t think anyone ever will.” – Bruce Irons.
Got a spare thirty minutes? Here’s how to spend it. Colourful, superhuman, acrobatic are a few of the words that one could use to describe Shawn “Barney” Barron. Widely regarded as one of the most innovative and spontaneous individuals in surfing’s history, last year Barney suffered a ruptured aorta and was pronounced dead at his home in Santa Cruz.
This filmic collage is a dedication to the life of Mr Barron, a man that often graced the covers of magazines with his progressive aerial antics or soul arching at massive Mavericks. Expect to see plenty of “Barney lay-backs,” coffin rides and barrel rolls, fluoro, superhero suits and those longer-nosed shapes of yesteryear (ridden extremely well). Pay your respects in awe and appreciation of what one creative man brought to surfing.
