The Untold Story Of Andy Irons, The Trailer
“As soon as my brother went down that dark road, we all went down that dark road.” – Bruce Irons
Nearly six years after Andy Irons died of a drug-induced heart attack, the closest depiction of what led to his death is set to come out early 2017.
“Everyone knows how my brother went,” Bruce told Stab back in our Venice offices while we were filming interviews for Thank You Andy. “It might be a little offensive to some, but at the end of the day, I hope it can help some kid from not going such an extreme way.”
Teton Gravity Research, the gentlemen making the documentary stated in a press release today: The film is the life story of three-time world champion surfer Andy Irons who died at age 32 from a heart attack with the secondary cause being an acute mixture of drugs. Andy and brother Bruce came from humble beginnings on the small Hawaiian island of Kauai. The film chronicles Andy’s struggles with dyslexia, bipolar disease, self-medication, addiction, fame, failure, and success. Andy was the blue collar, “people’s champ” of surfing who dealt with issues that millions of people around the world struggle with every day. Andy died on Nov 2, 2010. His wife Lyndie, was eight months pregnant with their first child.
“When my brother was doing good and winning the light was shining bright on all of us,” says Bruce. “As soon as my brother went down that dark road, we all went down that dark road.”
