5 Surfers’ Lives Are Flipped Upside Down After A Mikey Wright Oil Check
Quiksilver X Stranger Things launch ‘Strange Surfing’.
I like it.
A four year partnership in the making, Quiksilver and Netflix’s Stranger Things will be dropping a new 80’s-inspired apparel collection on May 20. Ahead of their product launch, “putting a modern spin on our iconic 1986 archival designs”, they have released ‘Strange Surfing’ featuring Kanoa Igarashi, Rio Waida, Frankie Harrer and Andy Nieblas, road tripping joyously before their oil runs dry and scruffy mechanic, Mikey Wright comes to their rescue. Later they learn he also has the keys to a discrepant wave pool and they go surfing together under lightning bolts.
Big prod, big names, tight cinematography, and fine pop-culture referencing. Arguably, the best use of Waco as an anonymous canvas, plus they’ve managed to get surfers to act? They’ve done well here to pull this off, IMO.
Dig it, even.
For those unfamiliar with ‘Stranger Things’ it is a Netflix series directed by the Duffer Brothers set in 1980s Indiana, where a group of young friends witness supernatural forces and secret government exploits. As they search for answers, the children unravel a series of extraordinary mysteries.
After ST first premiered in 2016, it went on to attract record viewership on Netflix, an international fan base, and won countless awards (39 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, four Golden Globe Award nominations, a British Academy Television Award nomination, two Directors Guild of America Award nominations, three Writers Guild of America Award nominations, and three Grammy Award nominations). In February 2022, the series was renewed for a fifth and final season.

There will also be two collections dropping on May 20th and 27th on Quiksilver.com
