Watch: Aritz Aranburu’s Sixty-Second Namibian Barrel!
Ghostly grey, hollow, and howling the whole way.
This morning a message landed in Stab‘s inbox from Aritz Aranburu, widely considered one of the most tuned-in swell chasers in the world, fresh from his umpteenth time to Namibia’s Skeleton Coast.
The subject read: “here’s my one-minute Namibian barrel…”
While we were suspicious of such a claim, knowing the trusted source we hurriedly downloaded the clip: a coastline shrouded in fog, a stiff offshore blowing, and Aritz digging into a legitimate sixty-second slot, the wave’s speed and power apparent the whole time.
While the drone angle on Koa Smith’s endless string of tubes adds up to probably the best wave ever ridden, Aritz’s minute-long pit has to be compared with Koa’s previous Best Ever, from a few years back at the very same wave.
Stab loves a dick-measuring contest! Which tube was longer?
