The blood stained tale of Kelly Slater
The social media king that is Mr Slater posted a shot of this snapped tail with blood stains painting the backend: #Carnage on IG. So naturally we had to know what the fuck happened? Had we lost the king? Was he bleeding out on the floor beneath his back bumper? Was this IG post a cry for medical attention? We’ve seen this before. You’ll recall Braxton “Sharkboy” Rocha, who knew the power of social media, and after his horrific shark attack posted a video to his IG and Facebook hoping it’d send a message to his friends and family alerting them of his predicament. This wasn’t the case. Kelly’s trunk, however, is a beautiful thing; filled with a yellow board, leashes and few coconuts for good hydration. When we asked Mr Slater what happened, he just laughed: “I ate it on the first wave of my session out at Honolua and broke my board,” he told Stab. “When I came up the biggest double up I’ve seen in years landed on my head. I watched Dusty Payne get crazy barreled while I nearly drowned. I got washed into the rocks and in the process cut my finger and foot. Then I had to climb this sketchy goat track that was scarier than the beatdown. I was just carrying the board with the hand that was cut. The session improved from there but then I broke a second board. It was all in good fun.” Kelly’s safe… phew! Long live the king.
