Who Made The WSL’s Mid-Year Cut?
Blood has spilled.
We got to see the curtain’s close on the WSL’s big play today.
The mid-season cut. A plan to ‘streamline’ the tour by “1.) ensuring events run in an optimal swell cycle, 2.) creating a dynamic season long narrative, 3.) drive fan engagement” in the words of E-Lo. Yesterday, Chris Binns, our reporter on deck reported a ‘funeral milieu’ at the contest site yesterday as the bottom 12 men and 6 women were shaved from the tour.
How wonderful.

Those who failed to make the cut (and feel like grinding it out requalifying) will now be heading to Snapper for the first Challenger Series event. There will be 39 surfers who began this season on the CT in the heat draw for the upcoming event at the Superbank. In other words, this event will be stacked with talent and likely be the most engaging CS event to date.
Forecast: firing.
Big O, you gonna be there?
