Taj Burrow Gets A Wildcard Into Rottnest Island CT
Another CT veteran escapes the clutches of retirement.
In the spirit of giving retired legends another shot at glory, the WSL has awarded Taj Burrow one of the wildcards* for the upcoming Rottnest Island event.
Based on a recent project, here’s what we know about Taj:
– 42 years old
– retired
– owns a beer company
Taj originally qualified for the CT in 1997, then after deferring for a year officially joined the tour in 1999, which for scale, was also the year I was born. Over the following years, Taj gathered a list of accolades, including but not limited to: ASP World Tour Runner Up in 1999 and 2007, ASP Rookie of the Year 1999, 12 CT event wins, and an introduction to the Australian Surfing Hall of Fame to cap it off.
Despite Burrows’s age, he’s still got an enticing bag of tricks and a decent Dark Arts quiver if the conditions are below average. The contest waiting period starts on May 16th, giving papa Burrow less than a week to put down the Honest Ales and dust off the jersey.
I think I speak for everyone when I say we’re excited for this one.
*Kael Walsh, Liam O’Brien, and Stuart Kennedy have been granted the other wildcard slots.
