Surf100 With Dane Reynolds, Mikey February, And Mason Ho Airs Live September 2
The competitive surf revolution returns, and you are the judge.
‘Competitive surfing’ is a relative term.
There’s the kind of competitive surfing where you paddle-battle others, sit on them with priority, and burn them in the dying seconds when the math adds up.
Then there’s the happier, more natural kind of competitive surfing, which is simply seeing who performs better at a given break over a given amount of time.
We’re not saying one type of competitive surfing is better than another, but we’re damn sure there’s enough of the former in this world. That’s why we created a platform like Stab High, which allows surfers to perform on their own terms, entertain the masses, and push the sport in the process.
You could say Surf100 falls into that same category. So, we’re bringing it back.
What is Surf100?
Surf100 is a wave riding exposition that takes place over a single, 100-minute period and is judged live, at a later date, by the internet.
We’ve previously held two Surf100 events — one at Lower Trestles with Kolohe Andino, Griffin Colapinto, and Ian Crane; and another at North Point with Jack Robinson, Jacob Willcox, Jay Davies, and Kael Walsh.
According to our viewers, Kolohe and Jack were dominant at their respective locations.
Surf100 Mexico
For Surf100 Mexico, we’re taking freesurfing’s holy trinity — Mason Ho, Dane Reynolds, and Mikey February — to the fine-sand points of southern Oaxaca, where they’ll surf an undisclosed, empty break for a full 100 minutes.
There is one catch.
Like in the Surf100s before it, our competitors will count the two best waves out of however many they catch. The difference is, in Mexico, one of those waves has to be on a performance shortboard, and the other has to be on an alternative craft*.
The scores will be provided by you, and one lucky judge will take home a brand new Simon Jones and Channel Islands surfboard.
The viewing will be free for our premium subscribers, but a PPV link will be available for anyone who only wants the watch the 100-minute session.
Surf100 Mexico airs Thursday, September 2, @ 6PM PST.
Don’t be late.
*Alternative can mean: fishes, funboards, twins, quads, bonzers, twinzers, quadrinzers, eggs, flatbreads, midlengths, minis, ladders, logs, hydrofoils, baby oils etc.
