Surf More Than Anyone Else In August, Win A Free Trip To The Telo Islands
Consider this your official invite to compete in the Rip Curl Virtual Pro.
How many surf comps have you won in your life?
Be honest. This is a safe space. How many times have you tasted the sweet nectar of victory, like you envisioned as a wide-eyed child, before the harsh hand of reality slapped you right in the face?
If you’re anything like me, then the answer is probably exactly zero. Shelf is full of participation awards, though. Can’t say we didn’t try. Just a shame effort doesn’t exactly net you gold.
But what if that could change?
Enter: The Rip Curl Virtual Pro. A competition with no barrier to entry beyond owning a wrist computer and a willingness to surf yourself into ligament failure.
Throughout the waiting period for the Rip Curl Padang Cup, another game is afoot, and the rules are simple. Surf more than anyone else in August. Track every wave you catch via the Rip Curl SearchGPS app (available on GPS3 or Apple Watch). A running leaderboard will rank you based on wave count, wave length, and speed. At the end of the month, the person with the most numerical dominance wins.
First prize: A 7-day, all-expenses-paid trip to Latitude Zero.
Second: A Rip Curl Ultimate Search Pack (worth $1500 AUD).
Third: A signed Mason Ho rashie
Surf zones include: Everywhere. Anywhere you find yourself. Got a surf trip lined up? Best start logging your sessions. They say hard work breeds hard work, and in this case, surfing might just breed more surfing.
You don’t need to surf well. You don’t need to surf ethically. You could, theoretically, lose to a man named Jürgen — perhaps an Uluwatu local heavy of five years, body sculpted by excessive breath work, skin a gallery of tattoos with dubious cultural origins.
Would you burn Jürgen for an all expenses paid trip the the Telo Islands? How many times?
If you’re already wearing a smartwatch, congratulations, you’re halfway complicit. Download the app. Paddle out.
Long live your reign. Until September 4th, when the comp ends and you return to obscurity.
