Polarising and oddly-pivotal kickstarter of careers, the Hurley Pro, now offers a second unprecedented slice of awesome. We all scooped our jaws from our feet last month when relatively unknown surfer Cam Richards had Jamie Foxx and Jaden Smith (among many others) tweeting about their votes for him in the video trials. Cam also managed to do something no marketing manager has been able to do: Cause his opponent, Dane Reynolds, to fire up social media.
Hurley are now offering five spots to the public, to join Rob Machado in a half-hour Expression Session. To get in, you gotta buy in.
But before your face reddens with indignation, know this: The highest bidders, the five people who end up in the session, will be scooping all their cash not into Hurley’s pockets, but straight into the San Onofre Foundation, caretaker of the San Onofre/Trestles region.
There’ll be an online bidding process, kinda like an eBay auction.
“I’m honoured to be a part of this event and part of this historic expression session,” says Rob. “The San Onofre Foundation has been instrumental in keeping Trestles pristine, and I can’t wait to high-five my fellow expression session surfers and help preserve one of the best waves in the world.”
Yeah, Rob. Nice. As of today, you, the people, can bounce over here, or text the word “Hurley” to 52182 and place bids. The auction shall end at midnight on September 5, and if you are one of the top five bidders, you shall receive a product we’ve all thought about at some time in our lives: firing Lowers, with only a fistful of people.
