Obama Loves Surf!
The Prez digs Pulitzer-winning memoir Barbarian Days.
The New York Times Bestseller and Pulitzer Prize winner, Barbarian Days (A Surfing Life) by William Finnegan has quickly been acclaimed as the best book ever written about surfing. If you haven’t read it, we highly recommend picking it up. It’s just been released by the White House that the soon, and sad to be ex-prez of the United States, Barack Obama has the memoir on his summer reading list, and it’s number one.
Followed by:
2. ”The Underground Railroad” by Colson Whitehead. A novel about a runaway slave, it is the latest pick for Oprah Winfrey’s book club and was excerpted in a pullout section in Sunday’s New York Times.
3. “H is for Hawk” by Helen Macdonald, a memoir about how raising a hawk helped the author deal with her father’s death.
4. ”The Girl on the Train” by Paula Hawkins, best-selling thriller, the movie of which is to be released in October.
5. ”Seveneves” by Neal Stephenson, an apocalyptic novel about Earth in the wake of the moon’s shattering, by the author of “Snow Crash” and “Anathem.”
As is tradition, before the Obamas make their way to their annual summer vacation in Martha’s Vineyards, the president’s reading list is released. And the verdict: Obama loves surf!
The three-point draining, Bin Laden executing, first Black president of the US has a keen interest in surf. Which shouldn’t come as a surprise, he grew up in Honolulu and spends Christmas with his family on the island.
