Nate Florence Reveals His Round 3 Pipe Picks — Men, Women, Underdogs

Meanwhile, our account balance is getting precariously low.

Over the past few days, I’ve done a deep-dive into the world of online sports betting. There are two reasons for this.

1. This is the first time, to my knowledge, that proper surf betting has been made available to Americans.
2. We’re partnerning with Betonline.ag for the Pipe event to bring you updates, insights, and analysis around surf betting.

BetOnline.ag is going pretty hard in the surf world right now — not just with their offers on the betting side, but also with their investment into the sport itself. They recently sponsored Nate Florence and Billy Kemper for reportedly-not-small sums of cash, which is great for the boys, but it also shows that their reach on Youtube, Instagram and beyond is truly hitting non-endemic audiences. Which is a win for everyone involved.

It was also quite clever of the BetOnline folks to get behind surfers not on the Championship Tour, because it allows Nate and Billy to share their picks without there being any conflict of interest. They can be punters just like the rest of us (until a big wave event goes down, of course).

Yesterday, we reached out to Nate to get his picks for Round 3 of the men’s and women’s Pipe CT, which should resume today. You can hear Nate’s thoughts in full above, or get the straight breakdown below.

Nate’s Picks (R3):

Men: John Florence, Kelly Slater, Italo Ferreira

Women: Moana Jones, Carissa Moore, Tyler Wright

Underdogs: Ivan Florence, Kolohe Andino, Leo Fioravanti

It’s a long road to the final, and the draw is more than a little lopsided.

As a reminder, I picked the following men for Round 3 (Note that the odds below reflect when I originally made my picks, and they have since changed. Also keep in mind that I made these picks thinking the men would surf on day 2, in smaller Backdoor conditions — another rookie mistake!):

$10 on Barron Mamiya (-175) over Conner Coffin (+135): (Potential win: $5.71)
$40 on Leonardo Fioravanti (+140) over Nat Young (-180): (Potential win: $70)
$10 on Miguel Tudela (+325) over Italo Ferreira (-550): (Potential win: $32.50)
$10 on Carlos Muñoz (-110) over Frederico Morais (-130): (Potential win: $9.09)
– $10 on Filipe Toledo (-110) over Ivan Florence (-130): (Potential win: $9.09)
– $10 on Zeke Lau (+190) over Seth Moniz (-250): (Potential win: $19)
– $10 on Callum Robson (+200) over Ethan Ewing (-300): (Potential win: $20)
$10 on Samuel Pupo (+150) over Deivid Silva (-150): (Potential win: $15)

Total Round 3 men’s spend: $110.

Moana v Tati, spicy!

In addition, I put some money on the women’s Round 3 this morning as well. Here’s where I landed:

– $30 on Tyler Wright (-500) over India Robinson (+300): (Potential win: $6)
– $15 on Brisa Hennessy (-120) over Gabriela Bryan (-120): (Potential win: $12.50)
– $30 on Malia Manuel (+150) over Sally Fitzgibbons (-200): (Potential win: $45)
I’m also toying the idea of putting a little money on Bethany (+400) to defeat Carissa (-700) should their heat run at solid Pipe. Stay tuned…

Total Round 3 women’s spend: $75.

I also threw some cash at potential women event winners.

– $15 on Moana Jones (+800) to win $120
– $15 on Carissa Moore (+200) to win $30
– $15 on Tyler Wright (+300) to win $45.

Total women’s event winners spend: $45

If any of these women win the comp, I’ll either break even (Carissa) or make money on the overall event winner.

Something better hit, and hit hard!

Total Pipe spend thus far: $465

Total Pipe win/loss thus far: -$100

Get amongst the fun here. And gamble responsibly!
