Kelly Slater Is Going On A Humanitarian Rampage

From Yemeni flags to animal rescue support, Slater’s IG has taken a turn for the altruistic.

We’ve been following Conrad Carr’s walk for animals since late September. It started as NYC to Florida, then became 1,000 miles total, and as of today — Conrad reached his 1,000-mile goal a few hours ago — Conrad will continue another 100 miles onto Cocoa Beach, where he will potentially meet Kelly Slater for a meal. Strange, but true.

This all happened today when Kelly sent Conrad a message asking him to extend his mission slightly. I’ll let Conrad explain.

“I just tagged Kelly in a post today so, I don’t know if that’s how he found out about my walk, but basically he messaged me asking if I was gonna make it to Cocoa Beach,” Conrad said. “I told him that I was actually just about to hit the 1,000 mile mark and was planning to fly home after that. So he said, ‘If you go to Cocoa Beach I’ll donate and share your story.’ So that pretty much fired me up to keep going.”

Slater then shared one of Conrad’s videos and promised him a free meal plus $10 for each of the 100 miles to Cocoa Beach.

Notice that red, white, and black image as Slater’s profile picture? Thats a Yemeni flag. For those who aren’t familiar with this nation’s dire state of affairs, just know that lots of innocent people are dying on a daily basis. It seems Kelly is simultaneously showing support and raising awareness with this flag photo. Hell, it made us do a Google search.

As we chatted, Conrad continued his journey along a wooded bike trail somewhere near St. Augustine. Despite being exhausted from his 1,000 mile venture, he says Kelly’s interest has given him a second wind — or at least a shot of adrenaline.

“I’m so pumped up right now,” he told me. “I just want to keep walking.”

“Is Slater actually gonna meet you for a meal in Cocoa Beach?” I asked.

“I’m not sure. He said he might be there at the same time, so we’ll see.”

“And what about the wavepool? I know you brought that up last time as a hopeful incentive.”

“Yeah, he didn’t say anything about that, but maybe he will. Or maybe I’ll, I don’t know, work it into the conversation” [laughs]

From @conradjackcarr@kellyslater “when the king beckons, Condor answers the call” #trulyhonored #stoked The narrative has changed #leaveittotheking – 100 more miles to Cocoa Beach Kelly’s gonna be donating for every mile #joinin#letsdothis #fortheanimals Repost from the King—  @conradjackcarrhas already walked 1000 miles from New York to Florida over the past month to raise money for animals. I just challenged him to keep walking another 100 miles to #CocoaBeach and I will give him $10/mile towards his goals. Anyone wanna join in? If you even want to support with good food or a bed along the way or maybe get him a board and suit to use for a quick surf, that would be amazing. He’s been eating at gas stations and fast food the whole way so maybe hook him up with some fresh juices and healthy meal on his trek? I’ll find a link to put in my bio to lend support if you feel so inclined. @surfinista he’s headed your way for the final stop!

“It’s always been my dream to build wavepools,” Conrad continued. “Even way back when Kelly was trying to build the donut pool, I thought it’d be amazing to help build and design them. I think my perfect day would be getting done work, hopping in the wavepool with my lady and maybe a kid, getting barreled, coming out, and doing an air reverse. There’s nothing better.”

Stab wishes Conrad the best and hopes that Kelly will treat him to sketti and meatballs plus a few waves in the tub. It’s only right.

Oh and, don’t forget about Yemen.
