John Florence and Carissa Moore Win The 2020 Digital Vans Triple Crown
A rundown from last night’s award ceremony.
Last night the winners of the Digital Vans Triple Crown were announced. Hosted by Kaipo Guerrero, the award show revealed the official winners of all three locations, the fan favorites, and the overall winners.
This year’s digital format was different, presenting both benefits and drawbacks. On the men’s side, John John Florence took home the digital crown. Not surprising, considering the sheer aggression from that carve at Haleiwa. John agreed that it’s harder to switch gears into contest mode with so many people out. Obviously, he still found a competitive drive throughout the last few weeks. “It was the most tiring event I’ve ever surfed,” he said.
Carissa Moore was the overall winner for the women’s Van’s Triple Crown. She claimed that the digital Triple Crown pushed her to go surf Pipe, and expects to get out there more in the future.
The live show wasn’t all trophies and awards. It features interviews with special guests like Mikey February, behind the scenes clips, and musical performances by Kimie Miner & Na Kama Kai.
