Jack Robinson Will Reportedly Return To Competition At The Surf Ranch
World number 3’s meniscus is healing just fine.
Jack Robinson missed out on defending his Margaret River title last month after injuring his knee on the Bells bowl. But after taking a page out of John Florence’s rehab book, Robo is going to return to the CT for the upcoming Surf Ranch Pro (May 27-28).
Keen listeners will have heard this news on the latest Stab podcast with Stace Galbraith and Jake Paterson. With an interview suave that would make Anderson Cooper blush, our source on the ground Stacey G cornered Volcom team manager Matt Bemrose on the stairs at Margaret’s. When Stace asked him point blank if world No. 3 would make a return, Robo’s manager/hype man said:
“Yeah, he’s back. Speaking with him every day. He’s getting stronger. He’s going to be back. He’s fired up. You know, watching (the CT event) from a distance has been a good thing. He’s been in the event the last three or four years, but seeing it from a different point of view has given him so much hunger.”
For the last several weeks, Jack’s been in Brazil treating his meniscus (cartilage in the knee). This month’s Surf Ranch comp will be the first time Jack has splashed in this particular pool. The forecast calls for 13-second tubes, cow farts, and a Brazilian doing something crazy on the left. As Jake and Stace pontificate, Jack needs to be 100% battle ready if he wants to make the Final 5 again. There’s a lot of game left to be played, and you can be sure John and Gabriel Medina (fifth and sixth, respectively) are going to be hard outs.
Here’s hoping Jack doesn’t get sidetracked by the more puntable Brazilian pools.
“Bemmy is the master of smoke and mirrors,” Stace said. “But he’s got me convinced.”
